I have been watching a programme lately that involves a well established celebrity who used to feature on a show where folk bought fairly run down properties at auction and by the end of the hour had managed to whizz the place into some fantastic shape with the ripping out of the most delapadated kitchens and bathrooms etc. The work often involves fathers and sons, husbands and wives etc. but essentially the best work and most gratifying results are always when the buyer has involved a professional team in the process. My heart sinks when the amateur cheapskate insists he’s going to turn the place around for £2500 in 3 weeks! You know it’s going to be very little improvement, just cleaned up and made safe. I prefer the massive reconstructions that have taken vision and an interior decorator’s eye for using space wisely. The difference in finished market value can be eye watering.
